I grew up in Great Falls, so it's fun to see what has changed. The CM Russell museum is terrific, and there are other artists also there. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center was the family's favorite, and there is a riverwalk hike to Giant Springs. Or you drive down to it (1/2 mile). Giant Springs is the largest natural spring in the world, I heard, but the Roe River, once the shortest river in the world may have been dethroned. The park around Giant Springs is great for picnicking, and we love just watching the river rush by. There's a trout hatchery next to the park, and it's fun to see how little fry become big fish. You can pay to feed them, so it's fun for little ones.
Great Falls is a grid, so getting around is easy. All the streets are clearly marked, and the main roads are accessible even during construction.
My favorite Western Wear shop is Hoglund's downtown. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is genuinely happy to help. They have a lot of boots and hats as well as clothing and accessories. I walked out with gorgeous cowboy boots that were comfortable from the start--not easy with this type of footwear, and they cleaned my son's Stetson for free, just because it was dusty. Truly my favorite store for that stuff.
